CHERRY HILL, N.J. (Cooper River) –The Bucknell women's rowing team opened its spring season Saturday at the Murphy Cup and two Bison novice boats earned medals at the event that was moved to the Cooper River in New Jersey from its customary Schuylkill River. The novice four won its finals race, while the novice eight placed second in its finals after winning its heat.

Additionally, the varsity eight "A" advanced to the finals, while the varsity eight "B" participated in the varsity eight petite final and crossed the line third.

Also in action Saturday were the lightweight eight (5th place) and the third varsity eight, which finished sixth in its second varsity eight heat.

Bucknell's varsity eight won its heat to earn a berth in the finals, but proceeded to finish sixth in the finals race.

Overall, six different Bison boats raced on Saturday. The competition schedule was delayed due to rain showers in the area.

Bucknell's second event of the spring season will take place next Sunday, April 1, when the Bison travel to the Occoquan Sprints in Fairfax, Va.
