LEWISBURG, Pa. - Todd Heritage (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire), a sophomore attackman on the Bucknell men's lacrosse team, pocketed a pair of weekly awards on Monday in recognition of his eight-goal performance in a 14-10 win over Hobart on Saturday. Heritage was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week as well as Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week.
Heritage's eight-goal performance ties the program record for goals in a game. Two others have accomplished the feat: Jim Ball against Penn State in 1979 and Ryan Klipstein against Lafayette in 2010. Heritage also added an assist, giving him nine points in the game. That is two shy of the school record.
At one point in the first half, Heritage scored five straight Bucknell goals. The last of those broke a 5-5 deadlock and gave the Bison the lead for good. All day Heritage was able to slip into open space around the crease, and his teammates were able to find him. Seven of his eight goals were assisted, and the only one that wasn't was goal No. 8, which came on a rebound of a saved shot.
Heritage had eight goals in the team's first four games of the season, and he doubled that total on Saturday. His 16 goals rank second in the league and sixth nationally on a per-game basis (3.20).
The Bison have now won two straight contests to improve to 2-3 on the season, and they are the top team among "others receiving votes" in this week's USILA Coaches' Poll.
Bucknell is back in action Tuesday afternoon at Drexel at 4 p.m.
