WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Bucknell women's tennis battled hard throughout the days matches but could not handle the aggressive offense Pittsburgh brought to the courts. Many of the matches were closer than the scores show, but Pittsburgh managed to pull away with a 6-1 victory over the Bison.
Freshmen Lydia Colvin (Cleveland, Ohio/Orange) and Jen Bush (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central), both showed determination and grit in their matches, despite coming out on the losing side. Colvin went toe-to-toe with Pittsburgh's Kimmy Borza but was eventually defeated 6-2, 6-4. Both freshmen played well for the young Bucknell team, which has seven freshman and two sophomores on the squad.
The one bright moment for the Bucknell squad was senior Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School), as she pulled out a strong 1-6, 7-5 (10-7) victory over her opponent Gabrielle Catanzeriti. With that singles victory, Iepuras now needs just six total wins to move into eighth place on Bucknell's all-time victories list.
Bucknell will look to walk away from the day with some valuable knowledge that can help them in their preparation for upcoming matches against quality opponents.
Bucknell will hope to bounce back Feb. 12 when the team travels to Saint Francis (Pa.) to take on a struggling Red Flash team.
