Bucknell Women's Tennis Loses 6-1 to Hofstra

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – Having two weeks off did not prove to be beneficial for the Bucknell women's tennis team (0-2) as they were defeated 6-1 by Hofstra (2-3). Hofstra's intensity was too much for Bucknell to handle, as all three doubles matches went in favor of the Pride.
Doubles partners Lauren Boone (Los Angeles, Calif./Marlborough School) and Lydia Colvin (Cleveland, Ohio/Orange) played an intense back-and-forth match against Bianca Derrick and Paige Polizois but eventually were trumped 9-8 by their opponents.
The lone victory of the day for the Bison came in a singles match where Jen Bush (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) defeated Derrick 6-0, 6-4. The win was Bush's first victory of the season.
Junior Daria Tuzhikova (Minsk, Belarus/Gymnasium No. 7) battled hard in her No. 5 singles match of the day versus Brooke Sailer but could not overcome the strong play from her opponent. She eventually fell 6-3, 3-6 (8-10).
The women's team looks to bounce back in a three-match weekend against Niagara at 5 p.m. on Feb. 24, St. Bonaventure at 3 p.m. on Feb. 25 and Duquesne at 11 a.m. on Feb. 26. All three matches will be played in Olean, N.Y., at the St. Bonaventure Indoor Tennis Courts.
