
Duquesne Deals Bucknell Women's Lax 18-4 Loss

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Clare Hurley, Caitlin Prince and Amanda Kidder scored three goals apiece to lead Duquesne to an 18-4 win over Bucknell in non-league women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at blustery Rooney Field. Freshman Emily Kookogey scored her first two collegiate goals for the Bison, who fell to 0-3 against a tough early schedule.
Duquesne, one of the top teams in the Atlantic 10, scored the game's first seven goals, three by Kidder, and picked up the win its season opener. The Bison, who had previously dropped games to a pair of ranked foes in Duke and Penn State, pulled within 7-2 on goals 17 seconds apart by Katelyn Miller and Madison Hurwitz, but the Dukes scored three times in the final 1:40 of the half to regain control.
Kookogey's first career goal came off a Molly Ford feed at the 19:12 mark of the second half, and she added another with 3:04 to play.
Freshman goalie Caroline O'Neill made a career-high 13 saves . Kerri Althouse and Rebecca Vetere led the Bison with two caused turnovers each, while Arriana Sajjad nabbed three draw controls.
Duquesne controlled the time of possession by winning 18 of the 24 draws and forcing 18 Bucknell turnovers. The Dukes outshot the Bison 45-13 and went 3-for-11 on free-position shots, while the Bison did not attempt one. Duquesne goalie Liz Walker finished with seven saves.
The Bison go in search of their first win of the season next Saturday at Manhattan at 1 p.m. Bucknell defeated the Jaspers 17-11 last season at Graham Field.
