Hornock Ties School Record as Bucknell Women's Track & Field Finishes Day Two of PL Championships in Third

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sasha Hornock tied the school record in the 60-meter prelims and Bucknell set 10 new program top-10 times as it wrapped up day two of the Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships. After six events, the Bison women's squad finds itself in third place with 33 points in the team standings.
Although her race was not a final, Hornock clocked in at 7.75 seconds in the prelims of the 60 meters. The time ties the best in program history and gives her the No. 1 time along with Tolu Fayanjuola. Hornock enters tomorrow's final with the second-fastest time at the champion meet. Emma Rice also advanced to the finals with a time of 7.88 seconds, which rockets her up to third all-time at Bucknell.
Before the Bison got on the track, Abby Monaghan and Sarah Bella started competition off right. Both put up career-best marks in the weight throw with Monaghan taking third with a mark of 56 feet, 5 ¾ inches. It was her best distance by more than three feet. Following suit, Bella's 54-11 ¼ was more than four feet better than her previous career best. It also earned her fourth place at the meet.
In the long jump, Alexandra Romanelli surprised even herself with a second-place finish. Known more as a triple jumper, the junior posted a distance of 18-3 ¼ for the best mark of her career. Hornock was also sixth at 17-11. Continuing the success in the high jump was Emily Ando, who placed fourth overall, clearing 5-5 for the first time in her career.
Wrapping up action on day two was the 4x800 relay, which placed third overall. Beth Braunegg, Emily Waksmunski, Caroline Tolli and Hana Casalnova went back and forth with the field for much of the race before finishing in a time of 9:01.92. The quartet now ranks sixth in program history.
Including a fourth-place finish in the 5,000 meters from Stephanie Fulmer, Bucknell moved into third place in the team standings having totaled 33 points. Defending champion Navy finished day two of competition in first with 56 points, while Lehigh is second with 36.
Included in the last day of action will be the 60-meter hurdles final, which will include Bison senior Taylor Funk. Funk posted the best time of the prelims on Saturday at 8.84 seconds. Kim Nagotko, Jennifer Zymet and Hornock also advanced to the 200 final. Nagotko led the group at 25.61 seconds, which ranks fourth all-time at Bucknell.
Action gets underway at 10 a.m. Sunday at Gerhard Fieldhouse. The awards ceremony, which will include the crowning of the 2012 Patriot League Champion, is set for 5 p.m.
