LEWISBURG, Pa. - Coming on the heels of Bucknell women's basketball's first two-game winning streak of the year, Shelby Romine (Centreville, Va./Westfield) claimed her first career Patriot League/Anaconda Player of the Week citation on Monday. The sophomore guard averaged 18.5 points and 3.5 assists in the victories over Colgate and Lafayette.
Capping off the strong week, Romine scored a season-high 26 points at Lafayette last Saturday. The scoring output came on 6 of 10 shooting from the field, including a 3-for-4 clip from 3-point range, and 11 of 13 shooting from the free throw line. With the performance, the co-captain reached 600 career points, giving her more points than any other current Bison.
Romine also dished out five assists and nabbed two steals in the 65-54 win over the Leopards, which gave the Bison their first win on the road this season.
Before topping Lafayette, Romine totaled 11 points and seven rebounds to help Bucknell to a 67-45 victory over Colgate. The win snapped a 13-game losing streak for the Bison. Romine also contributed two assists and a steal to the cause.
For the week, Romine shot .526 (10-for-19) from the floor and .778 (14-for-18) from the free throw line. She added 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while averaging 34.0 minutes of playing time.
Romine leads Bucknell in scoring (9.5) and assists (3.2) this season. The Player of the Week honor is the first of her career, although she was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week six times last season before being voted to the All-Patriot League Preseason Team in November.
Bucknell will return to the court on Wednesday when it travels to Lehigh. Tipoff in Bethlehem, Pa., is set for 7 p.m.
