LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell men's tennis takes on a stout Penn State team (4-2), as they look to start the season with back-to-back wins. The Bison make the short road trip this Saturday to University Park, Pa. for a 3 p.m. match at the Indoor Tennis Center.
The Bison, coming off of dominating win against the Red Flash of Saint Francis (Pa.), take on a Penn State team that recently split a doubleheader with a 6-1 loss against No. 32 Virginia Tech and a 6-1 win over Bloomsburg.
This match will be a solid test for the Bison as several key players look to continue to build on the first match success. Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) started the season with both a singles and doubles victory, which brings him just one win away from the top-10 all-time victories rankings for Bucknell.
Another Bison looking to continue his successful start to the season is sophomore Kyle Rosen (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills). Rosen won both of his matches against the Red Flash, and hopes to keep the momentum rolling Saturday.
Last year the Bison traveled to face the Nittany Lions and were sent home with a 6-1 defeat. Cohenca was the lone victory for the Bison then, winning over sophomore Bryan Welnetz 5-7, 6-1 (10-6), giving Bucknell its first singles victory against Penn State since 1986. The comeback victory led to Cohenca becoming the first men's tennis player to earn the title Bison Athlete of the Week.
After this weekend the Bison travel for the third consecutive match on Saturday, Feb. 18 at noon against Hofstra University in Quakertown, Pa.
