LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's track and field team opened its 2012-13 campaign Saturday by hosting the Bison Opener at Gerhard Fieldhouse. The Bison had three first-place finishes and two new program top-10 marks, including a school record in the 300-meter dash by Jennifer Zymet.
Zymet broke the previous school record (41.54) in the 300 that had been held by Hall of Famer Tameka Hinton. Zymet clocked in at 40.65 seconds to win the race, .41 seconds ahead of second-place Alexis Hurd of St. Francis.
Sophomore Kim Nagotko posted a top-10 time in the 60 as she won her heat. She posted a time of 8.03 seconds to tie Catherine Trentacoste for ninth place in program history. That time also helped Nagotko finish .03 seconds ahead of the runner-up in the heat. She was the lone Bison to compete in the event.
Hana Casalnova posted a victory in the mile. She crossed the finish line in 5:01.57, nearly 10 seconds ahead of teammate and runner-up Emily Waksmunski. Bucknell had three of the top four finishers in the race as Kylie Pearce took fourth in the seven-person field.
Morgan Roche won the 800 to round out Bucknell's list of winners of events. She took first in her heat in 2:23.30. Two spots behind her was teammate Andrea Bourgal.
Bucknell's "A" relay took second in the 4x400 relay, while Alyssa Cardillo was second in the long jump. Abigail Brundage was third in the shot put, while Autumn Schellenberger's second-place showing in the pole vault equaled the best showing by a Bison in a field event.
Bucknell will return to action Jan. 5 when it hosts the Bucknell Mini Meet.
