LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior Bridget Wilcox (Bernardsville, N.J./Taft School) made a little history on Thursday when she was honored as the very first Patriot League Women's Golfer of the Month selection. The Patriot League has added women's golf to its sports cache in 2012-13, and Wilcox becomes its first monthly award winner after a strong showing in three September tournaments.
Wilcox was Bucknell's low player in all three events in the month of September. She began the year with rounds of 76-77-78 in a ninth-place finish at the Bucknell Invitational. Two weeks later, playing in nasty weather conditions at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich., Wilcox posted rounds of 79-81-83. The 79-81 combo on day one of the tournament, played in sideways rain, wind and chilly temperatures, was especially impressive. Most recently, Wilcox posted rounds of 79-79-78 at the Nittany Lion Invitational last weekend.
Wilcox, who was named team captain last week, leads the team with a 78.9 scoring average, and seven of her nine rounds have been in the 70s.
The Bison have two more fall events coming up later this month. Bucknell will be at the MAC Preview at the Longaberger GC in Ohio on Oct. 15-16, and they will wrap up the fall season at Kiawah Island in the Palmetto Invitational Oct. 21-22.
