LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's Evan Zimmer (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) received the final Patriot League men's tennis award of the year on Thursday by being named the league's Player of the Month for April. The Bison sophomore went 5-1 in singles and 4-2 in doubles during the final stretch of play.
Zimmer was named Second Team All-Patriot League as well as Academic All-Patriot League earlier this month, becoming the only player to earn both honors. His most recent 5-1 singles mark was part of a stretch that saw him win 11 of his last 14 matches, while two of those three losses came in three sets. Zimmer and Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) also went 2-0 together in doubles at the Patriot League Tournament to end the season.
Overall this year, Zimmer led Bucknell in singles victories, working his way to a 17-10 record while playing primarily at the second and third lineup spots. He was also 12-12 in doubles, including 8-7 at the No. 1 position with Kovic.
The Player of the Month honor is the first of Zimmer's career. He is also the second Bison this year to claim the award, joining freshman Scott Bernstein (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) who was named the top player for September.
Zimmer is 27-14 in singles and 25-19 in doubles for his career. With a 52-33 combined mark, he has won better than 61 percent of his matches through his first two seasons in the Orange and Blue.
Bucknell ended its season in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals with a 4-2 loss to Army. The third-seeded Bison wrapped things up with an overall record of 11-8.
