LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bison women's lacrosse team has two home games remaining in the 2011 season, and both will air live on Bison Vision at BucknellBison.com. First up is Tuesday's 4 p.m. contest vs. Manhattan at Graham Field.
Bucknell is coming off a tough 14-7 loss to Holy Cross on Saturday. The Bison got off to a great start in that one, jumping out to a quick 4-1 lead, but the Crusaders later poured in 10 straight goals to take command. The setback dropped the Bison to 2-11 on the season.
Manhattan comes in with a 4-7 record. The Jaspers snapped a three-game losing streak with a come-from-behind 12-11 win over Siena on Saturday. They trailed 11-9 with four minutes to play before scoring the final three goals of the game. Phelicia VanOverbeke netted the game-winner with 18 seconds left.
Chrissy Gutenberger paces Manhattan with 28 points on 24 goals and four assists. Julia Lavelle has 15 goals and Tara Convery 12. Julia DiBernardo has seen most of the action in goal and has a .367 save percentage and 13.69 goals-against average for the Jaspers, who 9.5 goals per game and allow 13.5 on the season.
Gutenberger, along with Elizabeth Dugan and Kristen Brennan, were all former teammates of Bucknell's Julia Braun at North Rockland High School in New York. Braun, who had two more goals in Saturday's game against Holy Cross, continues to lead Bucknell in scoring with 26 goals and 31 points. Freshman Ali Carey had two goals and two assists last time out, and she is now up to 29 points on 23 goals and six assists. Sophomore Madison Hurwitz hit the 20-goal mark for the first time in her career, while Katelyn Miller has reached the 30-point plateau (18G, 12A) after recording a couple of assists against the Crusaders.
This will be just the second all-time meeting with the Jaspers. The Bison defeated Manhattan 12-6 at home in 2007.
Following the Manhattan game, the Bison will have a rare weekend off before taking on Columbia on Apr. 20 at home. That game will also be shown on Bison Vision.
