BOSTON - In Bucknell men's track and field's final indoor meet of the year, Robert Arent (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) added All-East honors in the 400 meters to his resume and the distance medley relay ran the fifth-fastest time in program history at the IC4A Championships at Boston University on Sunday. The Bison women wrapped up the ECAC Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center as well, led by their distance medley relay.
"It was a very impressive weekend for our men's team," said head coach Kevin Donner. "Arent ran three tremendous. The distance medley relay ran great in the trials to make final and earn All-East. I was very proud of everyone."
A day after Arent ran Bucknell's second-fastest time (47.83) in the 400 prelims, the junior came back to finish sixth in the finals in a time of 48.24 seconds. His All-East accolades are the first of his career indoors.
Joining Arent with All-East honors was the distance medley relay, which was seventh in the finals with a time of 10:01.42. Dustin Horning (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area), Dennis Logan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), Clayton Smith (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) and Christopher Boyd's (Gaithersburg, Md./Thomas S. Whootton) best performance came in the prelims, however. The quartet recorded a mark of 9:56.63, placing them fifth in Bucknell's record books.
At the end of the two-day meet, the Bison men had broken six program top-10 marks while competing in 11 events at the championships.
On the women's side, the distance medley placed seventh overall with a time of 11:51.47. That ranks fourth all-time at Bucknell.
"The highlight (of ECACs) was definitely the distance medley relay," said Donner. "They all ran super legs to score points and earn All-East."
Making up the distance medley were three freshmen and a junior - Beth Braunegg (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.), Jennifer Zymet (Paramus, N.J./Paramus), Erin Horleman (Beach Haven, N.J./Southern Regional) and Emily Liggett (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Lawrenceville School (N.J.)). The All-East honors are the first for all four runners.
In the team standings, Bucknell tied for 46th with two points on the women's side. The men were 41st with five points.
Up next for the Bison are the Towson and Susquehanna invitationals on March 26. The meets mark the beginning of the outdoor track and field season.
