WASHINGTON, D.C. - Julia Braun (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland), Madison Hurwitz (Holland, Pa./Council Rock) and Andrea Feldman (Radnor, Pa./Radnor) all scored hat tricks, but the Bucknell women's lacrosse team fell 20-11 at American on Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Field. The Eagles scored 13 first-half goals and improved to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League, while the Bison fell to 2-9, 0-3.
Paige Lin and Samantha Marshall scored four goals apiece for American, while Bernadette Maher had three goals and Emily Burton two goals and three assists. The Eagles finished with a 37-18 shot advantage and took the game over with a fast start.
After Marshall and Braun traded goals in the opening 1:20 of the game, the Eagles scored six straight goals en route to leads of 7-1 and 10-2. Bucknell had a three-goal run later in the half to pull within 10-5. It was an 11-6 game after a Hurwitz goal with 1:35 left, but Eliza Morgan scored with 35 seconds remaining and Marshall added another with just two ticks left to make it 13-6 at intermission.
Feldman opened the second-half scoring for the Bison, but another 7-1 for American pushed the Eagles' lead up to 20-8. Feldman, Hurwitz and Lindsey Ferro (Catonsville, Md./Notre Dame Prep) finished the scoring in the final four minutes.
Alyssa DeLorenz (Garland, Texas/Plano East), the national saves leader, added 10 more to her season total, while Kaska Komosinski had four saves for the Eagles, all in the first half. Bucknell scored five goals on six shots in the second half.
The Bison open up a four-game homestand next Saturday against Lafayette at noon.
