Bucknell Men's Golf Opens Spring Season at C&F Bank Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell men's golf team opened up its spring campaign Monday at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate at Kingsmill, and the Bison got off to a bit of a slow start with a round of 318 in wet, slow conditions. J.J. Szmadzinski led the team with a 4-over 76, and Bucknell stands in 21st place with 18 holes remaining.
Also for the Bison, Dan Bernard shot 79, Will Bachman 81, Schuyler Stitzer 82 and Ben Mattingly 83.
Led by a 5-under 67 from Chris Wellde and two other scores under par, James Madison took the lead with a team total of 281. UNC Greensboro is second at 287, followed by South Carolina Upstate at 291 and William & Mary and Binghamton at 293.
Delaware's Justin Martinson shot 68 is in second place in the individual standings.
Round two is slated for Tuesday morning.
