WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Bucknell women's tennis suffered its second straight 7-0 loss, falling to Binghamton at the West Branch Tennis Club on Sunday afternoon. The Bearcats swept the Bison in straight sets across the board and dropped Bucknell's record to 0-4 early in the spring season.
The two teams met just a few weeks ago at the Cornell Winter Invitational with Binghamton winning three of five matches. The Bearcats were even stronger on the Bison's home courts this weekend, however. Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School) came the closest to stealing a set, but came up just short. The junior dropped the opening frame 6-3 to Jillian Santos at second singles before being just edged out 7-5 in the second set.
Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) also managed a handful of games at first singles before taking a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Anna Edelman.
At doubles, Lauren Rottkamp (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) and Elizabeth Morgan (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield School) put up the biggest fight. Like their teammates, however, they came up short opposite Santos and Jennifer Fridman, 8-5.
Bucknell will have some time off before it returns to the court. The Bison's next match is slated for St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y., on March 5.
