GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Bison men's soccer team allowed only six total shots and only two on frame Tuesday night at Adelphi, but one of those attempts found the back of the net in the 70th minute and was enough to lift the Panthers to a 1-0 victory at Motamed Field. Bucknell's two-game winning streak and three-game unbeaten streak came to an end, as the Bison fell to 7-6-1 on the season.
Greg Mallia broke up the scoreless duel with a blast from about 35 yards out, helping Adelphi improve to 6-6-1 on the season. The Panthers, who are members of the Division I Atlantic Soccer Conference, have won three of their last four, and they avenged a 1-0 defeat at Bucknell last season in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
Bucknell outshot Adelphi 8-3 in the second half and 11-6 overall, but the Bison could not get a shot past Christopher Herrera, who finished with four saves. Marc Hartmann (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephen's) made his second start of the year for the Bison, and he was credited with one save, a good one Steven Rivera in the first half.
Brendan Burgdorf (Westfield, N.J./Pingry School) and CK Kumah (Accra, Ghana/Hotchkiss School) led the Bison with three shots apiece.
Bucknell returns to Patriot League play on Saturday at Army. Game time is 7 p.m. at Clinton Field.
