WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Arnold Chun headed in the go-ahead goal in the 73rd minute, lifting Army to a 2-1 win over Bucknell in a Patriot League men's soccer match Saturday night at Clinton Field. The Bison fell to 7-7-1 overall and 2-3-0 in the Patriot League, while the Black Knights improved to 6-9-0, 2-3-0.
Bucknell had won 11 of the previous 12 meetings with Army, but the Black Knights struck first in this one just 5:44 into the game on a counter-attack after the Bison had trouble clearing the ball. David Rouleau was the goal-scorer, netting his first of the year.
Bucknell amped up the pressure in the second half and scored the eqalizer in the 54th minute. Brendan Burgdorf made a nice run along the left flank and sent a cross in to Josh Plump, who cracked an eight-yard shot for his third goal of the season. Burgdorf picked up his team-leading fifth assist of the year.
About eight minutes later, Army keeper Winston Boldt made one of his eight saves on Plump's redirect of a corner kick, keeping the game tied. The Black Knights then went back ahead at the 72:51 mark on a double-header in the box off a long free kick, with Chun finishing it for his first goal of the year.
Boldt made three saves in the final five minutes of the game to help preserve the win for Army.
Tommy Caso recorded two saves in goal for the Bison, who outshot Army 19-11 on the night. Bucknell had eight corner kicks to three for the Black Knights, who were coming off back-to-back overtime losses to Patriot League preseason favorite Colgate and No. 19 Iona.
With the loss, the Bison fell into a tie for sixth place in the Patriot League standings with six points, but they are just a single point out of fourth place with two league games remaining.
Bucknell returns to action on Wednesday night against Penn State at 7 p.m. at Emmitt Field. The game will air live on Bison Vision at BucknellBison.com.
