GREENVILLE, N.C. --Counting three scores of 78 or better, the Bison women's golf team moved up one spot and finished in 17th place at the Lady Pirate Invitational, which concluded Tuesday at rainy Greenville Country Club. Lauren Bernard closed with a 4-over-par 76 and was Bucknell's low player for the week with a 54-hole total of 230.
Bernard carded a 1-over 37 on the back nine on Tuesday, including a birdie on her final hole of the tournament, the par-3 15th. Bernard tied for 47th place individually out of 104 players.
Kasha Scott posted her best score of the week on Tuesday with a solid 77, while Minjoo Lee twice answered double-bogeys with birdies en route to a 78. Bridget Wilcox, who shot 75-77 to lead the Bison on Monday, closed with an 80. Kelsey Meybin added an 84.
With a 54-hole total of 933, Bucknell finished ahead of Elon (940), Georgetown (941) and High Point (949) in a very talented field of 20 teams. Maryland came from behind to win the team title by posting a 3-over 291 in the final round. The Terrapins held off Georgia State by three shots for the title. Host East Carolina, the 36-hole leader, slipped to third place, with UNC Greensboro and UNC Wilmington rounding out the top five.
Samantha Morrell of 16th-place Old Dominion won the individual title with a 4-under 212. Maryland's Juliet Vongphaumy fired a 68 on Tuesday and was part of a four-way tie for second, just one shot off the lead.
The Bison will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday at the Wendy's Invitational in Charleston, S.C. Bucknell is the defending champion in that event.
