LEWISBURG, Pa. – Rain sent play indoors, but the cold and damp conditions couldn't keep Bucknell men's tennis from dominating at the Bison Quad on Saturday. The doubles final as well as the championship matches in both singles flights are all full of Bison, guaranteeing three titles in their final home tournament of the fall campaign.
For the second straight tournament, Greg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day) and Evan Zimmer (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) will meet Josh Katten (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) and Kelly Morque (Rye, N.Y./Rye) in a doubles final. Cohenca and Zimmer defeated Niagara 8-3, while Katten and Morque were also 8-3 winners over Youngstown State to advance. Cohenca and Zimmer will be looking to improve to 10-0 as a tandem this fall thanks in part to an 8-4 win over their teammates at the Bucknell Invitational.
Cohenca and Zimmer are also experiencing some déjà vu in singles. The two Bison both advanced to the final against each other at the Bucknell Invitational two weeks ago, and they'll meet again when the championship matches are played later this week. Both Bison fought off opponents from Youngstown State to get to the final stage.
Not to be outdone, Gregory Maxson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Hotchkiss School (Conn.)), Kyle Rosen (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills), Octavio Canibe (Spring, Texas/The John Cooper School) and Katten will be battling it out for the finals spots in Flight B. Each advanced to the semifinals with proset wins as the schedule was abbreviated due to the weather. Maxson will face Rosen, while Canibe's next opponent will be Katten.
The final matches of the Bison Quad will be played Oct. 5-6. Matches are no longer scheduled for tomorrow.
