Men's Tennis' Zimmer Wraps Up Bison Quad with Two Titles

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's tennis final wrapped up the Bison Quad this week, which had several of its semifinal and final matches postponed due to rain. The last of the matches were all between Bison. Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day) and Evan Zimmer (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) took their second doubles title of the year, while Zimmer defeated his partner for the Flight A singles championship. Kyle Rosen (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) and Chris Tortora (South Orange, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) were also winners.
Cohenca and Zimmer brought their fall doubles record to 10-0 by knocking out Kelly Morque (Rye, N.Y./Rye) and Josh Katten (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) 3-6, 6-1, (10-5). The two Bison pairings also met at the Bucknell Invitational earlier this season, with Cohenca and Zimmer winning that showdown as well. Katten and Morque have lost just twice this fall, both times to their teammates.
Zimmer topped Cohenca in the Flight A singles draw, 7-6, 6-4. It was Zimmer's fifth straight singles win and brings his record to 8-1 on the year.
Rosen and Tortora both won the first singles titles of their careers in flights B and C, respectively. Rosen became the first player to defeat teammate Octavio Canibe (Spring, Texas/The John Cooper School) this season, upending him by a score of 7-6, 6-4. Rosen is now 7-2 this season, while Canibe is 9-1. Tortora defeated Scott Bernstein (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) 6-4, 6-2.
Bucknell will be back in action Oct. 15-16 at the Lehigh Fall Championships in Bethlehem, Pa.
