LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's swimming and diving team hosted the regular season-ending Bison Invitational on Saturday in Kinney Natatorium and had a solid performance in the three-team, unscored meet against Connecticut and Patriot League foe American. The Bison totaled seven top-three showings in the meet as they prepared for next month's Patriot League Championships.
Connecticut won 12 of the 16 events contested, while American claimed four victories.
Bucknell, which finished the dual-meet portion of its schedule with a 7-4 record, saw a number of student-athletes compete in non-traditional events on Saturday.
The best finishes in the meet for the Bison came from sophomores Elizabeth Porcellio (Fairport, N.Y./Penfield) and Kelly Purcell (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area), who each registered a runner-up showing. Porcellio's silver medal came in the 100 breast, while Purcell's came in the 400 IM.
Other Bucknell swimmers with top-three placings on Saturday were Alexandra Psaris (Waterford, Va./The Madeira School) in the 500 free, Macey Keath (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) in the 200 fly, Molly Goebel (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) in the 100 fly, Emily Wright (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) in the 200 free and Kelly Pontecorvo (New Providence, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) in the 200 back.
The deepest event for the Bison on Saturday was the 100 fly where they had five swimmers finish third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh, in succession.
Bucknell will now continue preparations for the Patriot League Championships, which will take place at Kinney Natatorium Feb. 17-19. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Campus Box Office at 570-577-1000.
