Bucknell Swimming and Diving Teams Open Three-Day ECAC Championships

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened competition at the ECAC Championships Friday at Pittsburgh's Trees Pool. Just two Bison men were in action, while seven women competed in individual events. The men concluded the first day of the three-day meet in 14th place with 17 points, while the women were in 11th place with 26 points with only the one-meter diving finals to be contested.
On the women's side, four Bison, including three freshmen, posted season bests, and Sinead O'Dwyer advanced to the finals of the 200-yard individual medley to highlight the day's results. O'Dwyer finished in 13th place in the finals after touching the wall 10th in the prelims.
Caroline Higgins (50 free, 25.18), Alex Panzarino (200 IM, 2:10.61), Alyssa Rollando (50 free, 25.32) and Christine Shepherd (500 free, 5:09,55) were the Bucknell swimmers to record season bests.
The 200 free relay (12th place) and 400 medley relays (11th place) scored points for the Bison, as did divers Lisa Bolle and Morgan Popple, who placed 10th and 12th, respectively, in the one-meter diving prelims.
After finding out earlier in the day that he was named the Patriot League Men's Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Christian Treat placed fourth in the 200 IM finals in 1:53.20. Freshman Daniel Wallace was the only other Bison men's swimmer in action as he advanced to the finals of the 500 free and placed 15th, adding two points to the team tally.
Patriot League champion Navy leads the ECAC Championships on the men's side with nearly 100 more points than second-place Rider. New Hampshire (184 points) and Harvard (182) were in a close battle for first on the women's side.
The ECAC Championships continue Saturday with the prelims at 10 a.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.
