Bucknell Women's Swimming and Diving Wins Second Straight Meet, Defeats Army 201-98

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Elizabeth Porcellio (Fairport, N.Y./Penfield) led a balanced Bucknell women's swimming and diving team to a 201-98 victory over Army Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison's lone double winner, Porcellio claimed two individual events and was part of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay. Seven other Bucknell athletes won one event apiece.
Bucknell (6-2, 3-2 Patriot League) swept the first three spots in four events (100 breast, 200 fly, 100 free, 500 free) as it won 11 of the 16 events contested.
Porcellio's victories came in the 100 breast (1:07.03) and the 200 IM (2:10.84). Macey Keath (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest), who won the 200 breast, was the runner-up in both events.
The 200 medley relay, Melissa Besman (Solon, Ohioi/Solon) in the 1,000 free and Kelly Purcell (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area) in the 200 free helped the Bison to wins in each of the first three events and an early 42-13 advantage in the team score. Besman's time of 10:36.09 in the 1,000 free was a season best.
Morgan Popple (Bear Creek, Pa./James M. Coughlin) had a solid performance off the diving boards as she won the one-meter competition and finished second off the three-meter board. Her score of 228.23 off the three-meter was a career best and kept her in fifth place on the program's all-time list.
Other individual winners for the Bison included Alexandra Psaris (Waterford, Va./The Madeira School) in the 200 fly, Molly Goebel (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) in the 100 free and Kelly Pontecorvo (New Providence, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) in the 500 free.
Army fell to 3-7 overall and 0-2 against Patriot League competition with the loss.
Bucknell will travel to Columbia for a 1 p.m. meet on Sunday.
