Bucknell Men's Golf Finishes 7th at Cornell Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Freshman Schuyler Stitzer (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick School) closed with a 1-under-par 71 to help the Bucknell men's golf team shoot 297 and move up a spot to seventh place as the Cornell Invitational concluded Sunday afternoon at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.
The Bison totaled 904 for the 54-hole tournament, 36 shots behind first-place Binghamton. The Bearcats finished with a 1-under 287 to post a 13-shot win over runner-up Columbia. Longwood was third, followed by Lafayette, Cornell, St. Bonaventure, Bucknell, Siena, Canisius, Fordham, Colgate, Rider and Ottawa.
Stitzer, competing in his first career away tournament, tied for 11th place with rounds of 76-74-71. He finished 10 shots behind medalist Jake Katz of Binghamton, who was 5-under for the tournament.
Also for Bucknell, Jon Hartman (Essex Fells, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) closed with a 75 to post 227 for the weekend; Will Bachman (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) shot 77-73-78-228; J.J. Szmadzinski (Northville, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) had two very good rounds en route to a 229 (74-82-73); and Dan Bernard had rounds of 82-81-78-241.
The Bison will be back in action Oct. 9-10 at the Joe Agee Invitational in Williamsburg, Va.
