Bucknell Women's Tennis Sends Doubles Teams to Quarters at Eastern Championships

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Bucknell women's tennis claimed two spots in the doubles quarterfinals as the Bison opened play at the Eastern Championships hosted by Army in West Point, N.Y., on Friday night. Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School) and Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) were victorious in their first doubles contests of the day as were Courtney Casey (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation) and Lauren Rottkamp (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor).
Iepuras and Vidrascu began their tournament with an 8-2 win over Rhode Island's Brooke Hoover and Jenna Williams. The Bison duo went on to have a much closer but equally successful match against Tanisha Hodgson and Chantal Swiszcz of Massachusetts, 8-6. The wins were the first of the fall season for Iepuras and Vidrascu as a team.
After enjoying a first-round bye, Casey and Rottkamp got down to work with an 8-2 decision over Fairleigh Dickinson's Jessica DeCarlos and Emily Napier.
Bucknell struggled in singles play getting a lone win from Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls). The senior defeated Connecticut's Emily Herb in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Lucido ran up against the No. 1 seed in Flight A, however, falling 6-4, 6-3 to Elmine Botes of Fairleigh Dickinson in the second round.
Play at the Eastern Championships will continue through Sunday.
