LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bison men's golf team hosts the 16th Annual Bucknell Fall Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Bucknell Golf Club. A total of 13 teams will compete in the 54-hole event, which consists of 36 holes on Friday beginning at 8:30 a.m. and 18 holes on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. Bucknell has dominated this event in recent years, winning five of the last seven titles, including the last three in a row.
Joining Bucknell in this year's field will be three other Patriot League teams in Colgate, Lafayette and Lehigh, as well as Fordham, Fairleigh Dickinson, Loyola (Md.), Robert Morris, St. Peter's, Messiah, Laval and Ottawa. All three rounds will be held at the Bucknell Golf Club, a par-70, 6,253-yard layout located adjacent to the Bucknell campus. Admission is free.
Bucknell has won this tournament in 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2009, while finishing second in 2005 and 2006. Last season, the Bison used a school-record second round of 4-under-par 276 to cruise to a seven-shot win over Canisius. Bucknell players have won the individual title in each of the last three seasons. A year ago Andrew Cohen held off teammate Ben Mattingly by one shot for the title. Jeff Pike won here in 2008 and Stuart Lindgren in 2007.
Bucknell is coming off a fourth-place finish last week at the Colgate Invitational. Will Bachman was the top Bison finisher. He placed fourth at 3-over for the tournament, but he finished a terrific 6-under 66, a round that tied Cohen's program record for score in relation to par.
This week, Bucknell will have two entries in the field. The Orange team will consist of Bachman, Mattingly, Dan Bernard, J.J. Szmadzinski and Andrew Wallisch, while the Blue squad will team Jon Hartman alongside the program's three freshmen, Matt Haller, Schuyler Sitzer and Billy Wright.
Complete results will be posted at BucknellBison.com after the conclusion of play each day.
