Bucknell Men's Golf in Second After Day One of Colgate Invitational

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Senior Ben Mattingly (Fishers, Ind./Park Tudor) fired a 2-over-par 74 and the Bucknell men's golf team opened the 2010-11 season with a round of 302 Saturday at the Colgate Invitational at Seven Oaks Golf Course. The Bison are in second place in the nine-team field, but they trail by 16 strokes as the host Raiders opened up with a 2-under 286.
Mattingly was even par on the back nine and made four birdies in his opening round. He is tied for seventh place individually. J.J. Szmadzinski (Northville, Mich./Detroit Central Catholic) posted five birdies in his round of 75, and he is tied for 10th place. Dan Bernard (Malvern, Pa./Malvern Prep) also carded five birdies and finished with a 76. Andrew Wallisch (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) posted a 77, and Will Bachman (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) shot 81.
Bucknell has a three-stroke lead over third-place Fordham. Laval (306) is in fourth place, followed by Daemen (307), Ottawa (307), Niagara (309), Le Moyne (319) and Roberts Wesleyan (323).
Colgate's Will Delano shot a 4-under 68 on his home course to take a two-stroke lead over teammate Josh Spellman.
The final 18 holes of the Colgate Invitational get underway Sunday morning.
