Bucknell Track & Field Places Three on ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Teams

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell placed three student-athletes ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country Team on Thursday. Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) and Jonathan Lockhart (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) both earned first team honors on the men's side, while Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) was a first team honoree for the women. The trio will move on to the national Academic All-America ballots later this month.
Anthony caps off one of the most distinguished careers in Bucknell track and field history with his first selection to an Academic All-District Team. The senior earned First Team honors with a 3.51 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in English and philosophy and minoring in Spanish. Anthony recently received the Robert A. Latour Service Award at Bucknell's Senior Recognition Dinner for his commitment to the community. His resume includes activities such as serving as president of the university's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and treasurer of Eidos, Bucknell's academic journal publications. A two-year team captain for the Bison, Anthony also tutors at local elementary schools and homeless shelter, has co-led a mission trip to a Minnesota reservation to run a sports camp and worked as a YMCA counselor in Toledo, Spain.
Anthony has been equally busy athletically, earning the long jump and triple jump titles at the 2010 Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships as well as the honor of Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet. The pair of victories gave him a total of six individual titles in his career and nine All-Patriot League citations. Anthony, who recently made his second NCAA Championships appearance in the triple jump, ranks in the top 10 on several program lists. He finishes his career second all-time in the indoor (49-7 ¾) and outdoor (50-6 ¼) triple jump as well as fourth in the indoor (23-11 ¼) and outdoor (23-11 ½) long jump.
Lockhart, who also earned Academic All-District First Team honors last year, earned his spot with a 3.74 GPA. The senior was very active on campus during his time in the Orange and Blue as a founding member of organizations such as the Bucknell Magic League and AutoBuck car club. He was also a member of the national-qualifying Bucknell Karate team, Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity and American Society of Computing Machinery. A computer science engineering major, Lockhart conducted concurrency research in the Computer Science and Engineering Department in each of the last three years. He also interned with Northrop Gruman where he researched security and anti-tamper software as well as helped design radar technology for military use. Lockhart will attend the University of Cincinnati next fall to pursue his PhD in electrical engineering.
On the track, Lockhart served as a valuable member of the throws squad, often competing in the hammer throw, shot put and discus outdoors as well as the weight throw indoors. He finished his career ranked in the top five in the indoor (51-0 ¾) and outdoor (51-7 ¾) shot put.
Janda earned her first place on the Academic All-District Team with a 3.91 cumulative GPA, helped by a perfect 4.0 during the fall 2009 semester. A chemistry and economics major, Janda has worked as a research assistant with the University of Michigan's Anesthesia Department where she co-authored a study to be published in Regional Anesthesia. She has also been volunteered with the hospital's surgical oncology unit, at the Chelsea Community Hospital and with the Institute for Preventative Sports Medicine. On campus, the senior was a founding member of Child Soul - Gulu Walk, raising awareness for child soldiers in Northern Uganda, and served as a vice president of Mortar Board Senior Honor Society, Omicron Delta Kappa and Alpha Phi Omega. Janda recently received the Edward Pangburn Award, presented to the Bucknell senior for sportsmanship, fellowship and contribution to the university, as well as a Dean's Merit Scholarship from the University of Michigan Medical School where she will continue her studies next fall.
On the track, Janda is a four-time Patriot League champion, most recently helping the Bison's 4x800 relay to a title at both the 2010 indoor and outdoor league championships. Individually, she also earned a pair of top-five finishes in the open 800 meters. The team captain has inked her name in the Bucknell record books as part of several relays. Not only is Janda a member of outdoor 4x800 relay teams that rank fourth, fifth and eighth all-time at the university, but she also is fourth in the indoor sprint medley (4:11.46), sixth in the outdoor distance medley (11:59.80), seventh in the indoor 4x800 (9:04.40) and eighth in the outdoor 4x400 (3:50.65). Janda was also a four-year member of the Bison cross country team.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-America recognition, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key reserve on his/her team. Bucknell has had 118 national Academic All-Americans since 1970, the fifth-highest total among all Division I institutions.
