ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Will Bachman's 3-over-par 74 helped the Bucknell men's golf team post a first-round 304 Saturday at the Navy Spring Invitational at the Naval Academy Golf Course. The Bison are in third place in a field of 21 teams, trailing only host Navy and Columbia.
Andrew Cohen and Andrew Wallisch both came in with 76s, and Ben Mattingly and Dan Bernard both posted 78s for Bucknell. Bachman shot 37 on both sides and stands in a tie for 10th place individually. Cohen and Wallish are tied for 18th.
The Midshipmen benefitted from a 4-under 67 from Ben Hayes, who has the individual lead by four shots over teammate Peter Reilly and Columbia's Clark Granum. Navy shot 286 as a team, 10 better than Columbia and 18 ahead of the Bison. St. Bonaventure and West Chester are tied for fourth at 305.
Three other Patriot League teams are in the field. Lafayette is in sixth place at 306, Lehigh is tied for eighth at 311 and Colgate is 17th at 322.
Round two begins Sunday morning.
