NINETY-SIX, S.C. - The Bucknell women's golf record book took another major hit on Tuesday in the middle round of the Big South Championship, as Katie Jurenovich (Warren, Ohio/Howland) fired a personal-best, 1-over-par 73 and Minjoo Lee (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) backed up her opening round 70 with a 2-over 74, leading the Bison to a school-record score of 303. Lee now has sole possession of the individual lead at even par for the tournament, while the Bucknell team remains in a tie for fourth place with Radford with the final 18 holes still to come on Wednesday.
Lee broke the school record with her six-birdie round of 70 on Monday, and now she carries a one-shot lead over some elite company heading into the final round. Lurking just one stroke behind are four-time All-Big South honorees Olivia Jordan-Higgins of Charleston Southern and Aruka Felgueroso of Coastal Carolina, as well as Kayla Cline of Winthrop. Felgueroso is the defending champion, while Jordan-Higgins has been the runner-up in this event in each of the last two years.
Jurenovich eclipsed her personal best by three strokes with her 73 in Tuesday. Following a first-round 77, she has moved into a tie for seventh place and is now in all-conference contention, six shots behind her teammate Lee. Bucknell's best individual finish in this event was a T-5th by Amy Loughney in 2005.
The Bison also received a huge lift from senior Leah Antkiewicz (Aliquippa, Pa./Quigley Catholic), whose second-round 76 was not only a personal best, but it was 16 strokes below her spring scoring average. Brittany Rendell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) was Bucknell's fourth counter with an 80, and Kelsey Meybin (Midlothian, Va./Saint Gertrude) posted an 85.
Bucknell broke 18 and 36-hole program records on Tuesday. The team's 303 eclipsed the previous mark of 307, set at the Princeton Invitational in the fall. The 36-hole total of 613 is a new school record by seven shots.
Charleston Southern has four players in the top 10 and holds a commanding team lead with a score of 590 (294-296). Coastal Carolina is second at 604, followed by Winthrop at 608, Bucknell and Radford at 613, Gardner-Webb at 624, Presbyterian at 628, High Point at 641 and Holy Cross at 682.
Bucknell, which was seeded sixth coming into the tournament, is looking to eclipse its best-ever Big South finish. The team was fourth out of seven teams in 2008.
The Bison will be paired with Radford and Gardner-Webb in Wednesday's final round. They will tee off beginning at 8 a.m.
