LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) was named the Patriot League/M-F Athletic Field Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this year on Tuesday. The senior recorded a pair of fourth-place finishes and set two Bucknell top-10 marks at the Bison Outdoor Classic last weekend.
Musante took fourth place in both the shot put and the hammer throw last weekend. Her mark of 45 feet, 11 ½ inches in the shot put ranks second all-time at Bucknell and is less than five inches behind the school record. Her hammer performance was also a personal best, as she recorded a throw of 173-5. That mark places her third all-time at Bucknell. Both distances qualify Musante for the ECAC Championships in Princeton, N.J., in May.
Musante also competed in the discus on Saturday, placing 10th overall with a throw of 128-6.
Athletic success is not new to Musante. In addition to her top-10 marks set during the outdoor season, Musante is the school record holder in the indoor shot put (47-10 ¾). She also won the shot put and weight throw at the 2010 Patriot League Indoor Championships in February.
The award is the fourth of the year but the first of the outdoor season for Musante. Bucknell has won the league's Field Athlete of the Week honor in three of four voting periods this spring.
The Bison will return to action this Saturday when they host the Bucknell Team Challenge at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Competition is slated for a 10 a.m. start.
