LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior Carol Donohue (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon), the new all-time leading scorer in Bucknell women's lacrosse history, has been named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week. In Sunday's 21-8 win over Howard, Donohue broke the program career records for both points and assists.
It was a milestone week for Donohue, who has worked hard to get back on the field after suffering an Achilles tendon tear at the end of the fall season. Last Wednesday at Binghamton she became the sixth player in school history to record 100 career goals, and on Sunday she surpassed both the career points and assists marks as part of a terrific nine-point afternoon. She had four goals and five assists to lead Bucknell to the win over Howard.
In her career, Donohue now has 180 points on 105 goals and 75 assists. The previous career mark for points was 173, set by Suzanne Raffaele from 2000-03. Melissa Montefusco (1999-2002) held the career assists standard with 72. Donohue also ranks sixth in school history in career goals.
In 2010 she has played in four games, including three starts, since returning from the injury and already has 17 points on 10 goals and seven assists.
Sunday marked the third time in her career that Donohue tallied nine or more points in a game. She had a school-record 13 against Wagner in 2008 and also recorded nine against Lafayette that season. Her teammate, Julia Braun, also scored nine points against Howard, making them the first pair in program history to record nine or more points in the same game. The nine points are tied for sixth-most in a game in program history, while Donohue's five assists are also tied for sixth on the Bucknell single-game list.
Donohue and the Bison return to action against Colgate on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Graham Field. It will be Senior Day prior to the team's final home game of 2010.
