CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- On a difficult scoring day at Center Valley Golf Club, Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) posted a team-best 75 and the Bucknell men's golf team is just three shots off the lead after the first round of the Lafayette Invitational. The Bison stand in fifth place in the tightly bunched field after shooting an opening-round 313.
Sixteen of the 19 teams in the field are separated by just 11 strokes. Binghamton posted a 310 to take a one-shot lead over Lafayette, Villanova and Saint Francis (Pa.). The Bison are just three back, with Siena and Monmouth lurking only two behind Bucknell.
No player shot even par or better on Saturday. David Gushee of Siena topped the field with a 1-over 73, and Cohen is one of five players two shots off the pace at 75.
Also for Bucknell, Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck) and Ryan Schneiter (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) shot 78, Ben Mattingly (Fishers, Ind./Park Tudor) had an 82, and Jeff Pike (Rye, N.Y./Rye) posted an 84.
