Bucknell Women's Rowing Opens Busy Weekend with Strong Day vs. Rhode Island and Old Dominion

LEWISBERRY, Pa. (Pinchot Lake) – The Bucknell women's rowing team traveled a little over an hour south of its Bucknell campus Saturday for a busy day of racing against Rhode Island and Old Dominion, as well as Kansas, at Pinchot Lake. The Bison served as the host team of the event and it was their first time racing on the lake.
Bucknell competed in 11 total races and posted first-place finishes in nine of them. The Bison mainly rowed against Rhode Island in the seven morning races, although the lightweight eight did defeat Kansas' novice eight and the second varsity four finished a relatively close second to the Jayhawks' varsity four.
The Bison claimed the second varsity four, second varsity eight, varsity four and novice eight races against Rhode Island in the other morning events. The Rams did edge out the Bucknell varsity eight by .67 seconds in their race.
Bucknell dominated in the four afternoon races, sweeping all four. The Bison varsity eight and second varsity eight took one-two in a three-boat race against Old Dominion's varsity eight. The varsity four also defeated Old Dominion, while the lightweight four posted a 20-second victory over the Rhode Island second varsity four.
Racing will continue Sunday morning at Pinchot Lake when Bucknell faces Kansas in four races. It is the first time in program history the Bison will face the Jayhawks.
