Bucknell Women's Track & Field Finishes Runner-up at Maryland Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison) and Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) turned in award-winning performances at at the Maryland Invitational as Bucknell women's track and field finished second as a team at the Jim Kehoe Track Complex on Saturday. Siegrist led a herd of Bison that claimed the top four places in the javelin, while Fulmer was the first collegiate finisher in the 3000 in the team's first meet of the outdoor season.
Competing in her first collegiate meet, Siegrist won the javelin with a throw of 139 feet, 10 inches. That mark ranks third in program history behind Beverly Rogers and teammate Laura Rycek (Northampton, Pa./Northampton). Rycek was second in the event at Maryland, throwing 139-5. Finishing third and fourth, respectively, were Kat Folger (Groton, Mass./Bishop Guertin) and Sarah Trahan (Sandown, N.H./Timberlane Regional). Folger's mark of 134-8 ranks fourth all-time at Bucknell.
Joining in on the team's throws success were Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Conn./Shelton), Sarah Bella (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and Rebecca Misko (Morristown, N.J./Madison). Musante was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 44-9 ¾, giving her a personal best and the third-farthest program mark. The senior also was fifth in the hammer throw (155-8) and sixth in the discus (135-0).
Bella scored in both the discus and the shot put. Her discus throw of 135-1 was good for fifth, while her 42-6 ¾ in the shot placed her eighth. Misko led the Bison in the discus with the 10th-best distance in program history. The sophomore's 137-11 earned her fourth place at the meet.
Fulmer and Alaina Chodoff (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) each scored in the 3000 meters. Fulmer was third overall but the first collegiate finisher to cross the line, clocking in at 10 minutes,13.93 seconds putting her just .11 seconds away from breaking into the program record books in the event. Chodoff was sixth among collegiate finishers in 10:30.91.
Samantha Bower (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg-Salem) continued the Bison's success in the distance events, finishing second in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Bower finished in 11:43.70. Alysha Hooper (Meaford, Ontario/St. Mary's) was fourth in the 5000 meters (17:56.30).
Bucknell continued to pull in points in the triple jump, led by a fourth-place finish from Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazelton). The senior cleared 36-5 ½, while Casey Krause (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) was fifth with a distance of 36-5. Meghan Frate (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) was the third Bison to score in the event, placing eighth (34-3).
Other top-five finishers for Bucknell included Taylor Funk (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mt. Pleasant Area) in the 100 hurdles, Emily Moles (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) in the high jump, and the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
As a team, Bucknell totaled 123.5 points, finishing second to Maryland's 217. Penn was third in the women's field of 14 squads with 108 points.
The Maryland Invitational was not the only meet the Bison could be seen at this weekend. Bucknell also competed in a non-scored meet at Susquehanna's Jim Taylor Invitational at the Nicholas A. Lopardo Stadium on Saturday. Kelly Grosskurth (Huntington Station, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills East) won the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:36.02) and Kara Weichler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) finished third in the event (11:56.37).
Other top performances at Susquehanna included Rachel Weidman's (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) fifth place in the 200 meters (28.33) and Gabrielle Skovira's ninth-place finish in the 5000 meters (19:53.52).
With the opening weekend behind them, the Bison will now turn their attention to the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary on April 2-3.
