LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior midfielder Ryan Klipstein (Califon, N.J./Rutgers Prep) was named the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after his eight-goal performance in Saturday's game against Lafayette. Klipstein tied the Bucknell single-game goal-scoring mark and earned his first career player of the week award.
No. 18 Bucknell and No. 11 Lafayette engaged in a wild one Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium, with the Leopards ultimately remaining unbeaten after a down-to-the-wire 16-15 verdict. Klipstein and senior attackman Austin Winter (two goals, seven assists) provided most of the offense for the Bison.
By halftime, Klipstein had registered five goals, including one with four seconds remaining that lifted the Bison into a 9-9 tie at the break. His final goal of the day tied the game at 15-15 with 3:45 remaining in the fourth period. Of Klipstein's eight goals, five were assisted by Winter, a two-time Honorable Mention All-American who is one of Bucknell's all-time assist leaders.
The only other Bucknell player to score eight goals in a game was Jim Ball against Penn State in 1979. Klipstein, Delaware's Curtis Dickson and Stony Brook's Jordan McBride are the only players in the nation with eight goals in a game this season. McBride and Dickson rank 1-2 nationally in goal scoring.
Klipstein, who also had two goals and two assists in a win over Jacksonville last Tuesday, now ranks third in the Patriot League and 22nd nationally with 18 goals in seven games.
Bucknell, now 4-3 and ranked No. 20 in the USILA Coaches' Poll, next plays at Albany on Saturday at 1 p.m.
