LEWISBURG, Pa. – Although the 2010-11 season is just underway, Bucknell women's basketball continues to have its sights set on the future as head coach Kathy Fedorjaka announced the Bison's latest group of recruits on Thursday. Bucknell will welcome four early signees – Audrey Dotson, Jen Heider, Micki Impellizeri and Amy Zehner – who have been inducted into the National Honor Society and have combined for four state championship appearances and six selections to all-state or all-region teams during their high school careers.
“Overall we are extremely excited about our recruiting class. They are a talented group of student-athletes with three of the four being rated in the top 100 in the country at their position,” said Fedorjaka. “They have played for winning programs and know what it takes to win, and we expect them to make an immediate impact on our program. Along with being outstanding basketball players, all four excel in the classroom and are very active in their communities.”

Fedorjaka on Dotson: “Audrey will bring a lot of athleticism to our interior unit. Another forward who runs the floor extremely well, Audrey will fit well into the Bison system. She can face up her defender, take them off the dribble, and step out and hit the three. She has a nose for the basketball and knows how to compete. She goes to the glass hard and has the ability to defend both on the interior and perimeter. Audrey is just beginning to touch the surface of her potential, and we are excited about working with her to develop her full potential.”
Jen Heider (Alpharetta, Ga./Marist School) – Four-year letterwinner in basketball … team captain as a senior … scored more than 1,000 points in less than three years … named First Team All-Region as a sophomore and junior … member of Marist team that advanced to the region championship in 2009 … named to Peach State Basketball All-Tournament Team … named Pre-Season All-Metro as a junior … led high school squad in blocked shots freshman through junior seasons … helped Georgia Metros team to a fifth-place finish at Music City Madness in 2010 … Nike Regional Skills Academy Invitee … member of National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society … volunteer with Cherry Lane Foundation for therapeutic horsemanship, Medshare and Habitat for Humanity … daughter of Jim and Tracy Heider … has an older brother, Mike … born Oct. 13, 1992 in Providence, R.I.
Fedorjaka on Heider: “Jen is such a talented post player, and we are very excited that she chose Bucknell. She is a physically strong post who can score from the low block, but she also can step out and hit the three with consistency. She has played on a very high level with both her high school and AAU teams in the Atlanta metropolitan area, and we feel confident that she will be ready both physically and mentally to make the transition to Division I basketball and to contribute immediately her freshman year. Along with her talent, she brings some important intangibles to the table including her work ethic, leadership skills, and hard-nosed style of play.”

Fedorjaka on Impellizeri: “Micki is a very agile and up-tempo post player. She runs the floor extremely well and can extend away from the basket both offensively and defensively. She is extremely versatile and has great length and instincts on the floor. She will be extremely effective in our up-tempo and pressing game at her position. She can score around the basket with either hand and will bring a shot blocking presence to our team. She has a strong basketball IQ and can play a variety of positions on the floor.”

Fedorjaka on Zehner: “Amy will bring tremendous offensive firepower to our team. She can score the basketball in a variety of ways - off the dribble, in transition, posting up smaller guards and off of screens. Her ability to score and pass the basketball will really add a dimension to next year's squad. She has great size at the guard position and rebounds the ball aggressively from that spot. On the defensive end, she is long and gets her hands on a lot of passes. We're excited that Amy is from nearby Tamaqua; it's always a bonus to keep the top local talent at home and we are looking forward to her adding to our strong community support.”
