WASHINGTON, D.C. - Junior Thomas Brown, freshman Mike Nicholson and junior Eric Sokolosky won two events apiece and the Bucknell men's swimming and diving team posted its second victory in as many days as the Bison defeated George Washington 157-100 Sunday afternoon. Bucknell, which won a narrow 153-145 decision at George Mason on Saturday, is now 2-0 this year.
Nicholson followed up his trio of victories on Saturday with two more on Sunday as he finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 200 butterfly. He also swam exhibition in the 200 individual medley and posted the fastest time in that event. The Chappaqua, N.Y., native now has seven individual wins in his first three collegiate meets.
No stranger to first-place showings, Sokolosky won both the 50 free and 100 free. The 2010 Patriot League champion in the 50 free, Sokolosky won that event by .21 seconds and he claimed the 100 free by .89 seconds over second-place Niklas Glenesk of George Washington.
Brown missed most of 2009-10 with an injury and did not compete in this year's first two meets, but he had a solid debut on Sunday with wins in the 100 back (52.89) and 200 back (1:54.77).
Matthew Segar (200 free), Nathaniel Frye (100 breast), Christian Treat (200 breast), Michael Volpe (100 fly) and the 200 medley relay also posted victories for the Bison, who won 11 of the first 12 swimming events before swimming only exhibitions in the final two events.
Bucknell will commence its busy home schedule in two weeks with a quad meet against Patriot League foes American, Lafayette and Navy. The meet will begin at 12 p.m. in Kinney Natatorium.
