Bucknell Men's Swimming and Diving Goes 2-1 in Home Quad Meet

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Two individual wins by junior Matthew Segar (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) highlighted the Bucknell men's swimming and diving home opener Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison defeated American (208-76) and Lafayette (207-77), but lost to seven-time defending Patriot League Champion Navy (186-101) in the quad meet.
Segar, who won the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.20) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:47.96) in season-best times, collected two of Bucknell's (4-1) three individual victories on Saturday. Senior captain Michael Volpe (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) earned the Bison's other victory, leading a 1-2 Bucknell finish in the 100 fly. He finished in a season-best time of 51.82, more than a second ahead of runner-up and teammate Taylor Harris (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central).
Harris combined with Christian Treat (Evergreen, Colo./Clear Creek), Bryce Suchomel (Aurora, Colo./Regis) and Eric Sokolosky (Branford, Conn./Branford) on Bucknell's other win, a victory in the 200 free relay. The foursome was more than 2.5 seconds ahead of second-place American and just .08 seconds behind Navy, which swam the event as an exhibition.
In addition to his part on the 200 free relay, Sokolosky posted a pair of third-place showings on Saturday. He posted a season-best 46.91 showing in the 100 free and swam the 50 free in 21.30, just shy of his season best.
Thomas Brown (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) registered one of two runner-up finishes for the Bison as he swam the 100 back in a season-best 52.32 seconds. Billy Krause (Huntington Bay, N.Y./St. Anthony's) also finished second, swimming a 1:58.50 in the 200 individual medley.
Bucknell will be back in action next Saturday, Nov. 13, when it hosts Colgate at 1 p.m. at Kinney Natatorium.
