Bucknell Field Hockey Falls 6-0 at No. 7 American

WASHINGTON, D.C. - For the second game in a row, Bucknell field hockey found itself outmatched by a nationally ranked squad as it fell to No. 7 American by a score of 6-0 at Jacobs Field on Saturday afternoon. The Bison's record falls to 6-10 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League with the loss, while the Eagles stay perfect at 4-0 in the league standings and a 14-3 overall mark.
American never let the Bucknell offense get off the ground in Washington. The Bison registered their fewest number of shots in a single game this season, tallying just one per half. Kelly Bruvik (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) got the first attempt off late in the opening stanza but put the ball wide of the net. Morgan Kauffman (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) suffered a similar fate on her shot more than 40 minutes later.
Despite the sluggish offense, Bucknell kept the game close through the first half. American managed just one goal prior to halftime coming on an unassisted attempt from Lotte van de Mierop.
The Bison began to lose their defensive hold as the game wore on, however. At the final buzzer, the Eagles had 19 shots. Of their 10 shots in the second half, five found their way to the back of the net. Shelly Montgomery scored twice, and Gina Hofmann, Anne Van Erp and Jenn Bradley also added their names to the scoring list.
Sarah Zargarpour (North Vancouver, Canada/Handsworth Secondary) took the loss in goal for the Bison, falling to 6-9 on the year. The junior made six saves but allowed all six goals in 70 minutes of play. Zargarpour now has 105 career stops.
Hannah Weitzman secured the win despite not making a save.
Bucknell will try to get back in the wins column when it takes on Rutgers tomorrow. Game time in Piscataway, N.J. is set for 1 p.m.
