LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's basketball is taking special efforts to give back to the community in 2009-10. Although half the season is in the books, the Bison are far from slowing down with events such as Kids' Day Out scheduled for their upcoming home game against Holy Cross on Saturday.
As part of Kids' Day Out, the Bison will be hosting a pregame carnival starting at 12 p.m. on the Sojka Pavilion concourse. Young fans can have their faces painted, make posters and autograph books for the game and take part in a number of games. The women's team will also be available for a meet-and-greet at the beginning of the event. The carnival activities will conclude at 1:30, while the game versus Holy Cross tips off at 2 p.m.
At every home women's game, including against the Crusaders, fans will have the opportunity to win a mino flip video camera. To enter the raffle, fans in attendance must fill out a survey at the game. One video camera will be given out at each contest.
Other community outreach programs scheduled for January include a Coat Drive on Wednesday, Jan. 20 when the Bison take on Lafayette. Fans who donate a coat in the lobby of Sojka Pavilion will receive a coupon for a free hot dog at the game. The contest against the Leopards will also be Service Personnel Night when members of the service industry are invited to attend and be recognized throughout the game.
Bucknell's showdown with Colgate on Saturday, Jan. 23 will feature a halftime performance by the USA Jump Rope Team. It has also been designated Elementary School/Girl Scout/Daycare Center Night.
The events continue into the next month with Feb. 10 being a celebration of National Girls & Women in Sports Day and a WBCA Pink Zone game. Fans attending the game versus American will have the opportunity to catch pink Bucknell t-shirts, sponsored by Evangelical Community Hospital, which will be tossed into the stands throughout the game. The Wednesday night contest is also Library Campaign Night. The Union County Public Library will be on site to sign fans up for library cards.
Several other events, such as NCAA Pack the House, Camper/After School Programs Day and Upward/CYO Night, are on tap for the remainder of Bucknell women's basketball games. In addition to these programs, Bison fans will be able to collect autographs following three upcoming contests (Jan. 16, Jan. 23, Feb. 6).
Bucknell women's basketball is 4-11 overall and 0-2 in the Patriot League this year. After spending much of their non-conference slate on the road, the Bison will host a trio of Patriot League foes in Holy Cross, Colgate and Lafayette at Sojka Pavilion.
