LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell field hockey recorded its second consecutive win, taking down Vermont 3-1 on Friday night at Graham Field. The Bison (2-1) took advantage of penalties as Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison) scored her first career goal on a penalty stroke, and Marci Richard (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) also scored her first career goal on a penalty corner. Kelly Bruvik (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) registered the final score of the evening for Bucknell.
Siegrist's tally evened the score at 1-1 after the Bison found themselves in a hole. Vermont's Megan Maynard put the first notch on the scoreboard at 24:46, giving the Catamounts (0-3) the one-goal advantage.
Momentum soon swung back in favor of the Bison, however, as Bruvik got the ball on a breakaway. The junior looked to have a clear shot at the goal but drew a penalty from the Catamounts defender, sending Siegrist to the line for a penalty stroke. Siegrist shot high, and the goal gave Bucknell its first score of the night.
The teams went into halftime tied. Bucknell had to wait only five minutes to change that, however, as Richard scored the game-winner at 40:03, assisted by Siegrist and Morgan Kauffman (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor). The score came off the third penalty corner of the period for the Bison.
Bucknell carried a significant advantage over Vermont in penalty corners. The Bison had eight on the night, including six in the second half, while the Catamounts failed to earn a corner in the contest.
Although Bruvik's shot at a goal in the first half was erased, she got another opportunity in the second and capitalized on it. Off an assist from Corinne Raczek (Ocean Township, N.J.), Bruvik earned her first goal of the season.
Bucknell's pair of tallies in the second half was a result of firing more shots than its opponent. The Bison registered twelve shots in the final period. Despite its aggressiveness throughout the game, the Catamounts managed just one in the second.
The Bison remain at home for their next game, taking on Towson at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6. Live stats for the game at Graham Field will be available on GameTracker at BucknellBison.com
