LEWISBURG, Pa. – Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday following a stellar outing at the Bucknell Invitational. The junior tennis player won the Flight A Singles Championship for the second consecutive year on Sunday.
Lucido had to work hard to defend her title at the home tournament. She defeated Duquesne's Ana Mungo 3-6, 6-1, 10-7 in the championship match. Lucido also played a pair of 10-point tiebreakers on Saturday to keep her drive alive, upending opponents from Villanova and Duquesne in the process. The run began with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Lauren Clifton of Hofstra on Friday afternoon.
With the four wins over the weekend, Lucido improves her 2009 singles fall record to 6-0. She was also unbeaten at the Bloomsburg Invitational a week ago.
In just over two years in the Orange and Blue Lucido has amassed 91 total career victories in singles and doubles. That places her tied for ninth all-time in Bucknell history. Lucido also ranks in the top 15 in career singles (42, 14th) and doubles (49, seventh) wins as well as winning percentage.
The Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week award is the first of Lucido's career.
Lucido and her teammates will be back on the court for the Eastern Championships Sept. 25 through Sept. 27 in West Point, N.Y.
