PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Bucknell men's tennis faced a series of tough opponents in the third day of the Northeast Intercollegiate hosted by Brown on Sunday. Ryan Marcil (Vero Beach, Fla./St. Edward's) won both his matches to take fifth place in Flight No. 6 singles. Five other Bison advanced to the semifinals or better of their respective flights but were unable to pull out the victory on the final day.
Marcil claimed his fifth-place finish by sailing to a pair a straight-sets wins over opponents from Connecticut and Boston College. The freshman started off by defeating the Huskies' Wei Linn 6-4, 6-3 before closing out the day with a 6-1, 6-4 win over the Eagles' Rob Ankner.
Clark Bogle (Hingham, Mass./Thayer Academy) had a chance at the title in Flight No. 7 and gave it his best shot through three close sets. The sophomore dropped the opening set in a tiebreaker before coming back in the second, 6-4. Villanova's Liam Bohonnon returned the favor in the third with a 6-4 win of his own.
The Bison struggled in their four semifinal matches. Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) fell 6-4, 6-4 to Connor Witty of Villanova. The remaining three Bison freshmen also dropped their matches. Evan Zimmer (Essex Falls, N.J./West Essex).
