Bucknell Men's Tennis Stays Alive at Northeast Intercollegiate

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Evan Zimmer (Essex Falls, N.Y./West Essex) and Kelly Morque (Rye, N.Y./Rye) claimed second place in Flight No. 2 doubles and six other Bison claimed wins on the second day of the Northeast Intercollegiate hosted by Brown on Saturday.
Zimmer and Morque advanced to the championship match after winning both contests yesterday. The freshmen's run ended at the hands of the team from Fairleigh Dickinson, although they pushed the contest as far as it would go. Fairleigh Dickinson eventually took the win 8-7, but needed the tiebreak at 7-5 to do it.
The two also were successful in singles. They remain alive in the double-elimination tournament after Zimmer defeated Erik Kremheller of Fairfield 6-4 and 6-2 in Flight No. 4 and Morque took out Max Segan of Colgate 6-3 and 6-0 in Flight No. 5.
A third freshman also got through unscathed as Josh Katten (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) defeated Hofstra's Jon Levinson 6-2, 6-2.
Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) avoided elimination with a win over Fairleigh Dickinson's Marco Jemersic. The junior cruised to a clean 6-3, 6-3 victory. Gregg Cohenca rounded out the singles wins for the Bison with a straight-sets win of his own. The sophomore beat Connecticut's Ricardo Cardona, 6-4 and 6-3 in Flight No. 5.
The Bison will be back on the courts tomorrow for the final day of the double-elimination tournament. Complete results and draws for the tournament can be found at BrownBears.com.
