Bison Women's Tennis Continues Fall Success at Day One of Bucknell Invite

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's tennis got off to a solid start on the first day of its home invitational. The Bison collected four singles wins and two doubles wins in the double-elimination tournament as Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and Daria Tuzhikova (Minsk, Belarus/Gymnasium No. 7) maintained their undefeated records in singles play.
Lucido defeated Hofstra's Lauren Clifton in the first round of the Flight A singles. After being pushed to a tiebreak and winning 7-6, Lucido had a decidedly easier time of it in the second set, upending her opponent 6-0.
Tuzhikova also had an easy road to her third consecutive singles win in Flight B. The freshman defeated Judy Lite of Loyola (Md.) in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-2.
Lucido and Tuzhikova paired up to continue their winning ways in doubles. The two took out the team from Villanova, 8-6.
Courtney Casey (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation) nabbed her first win of the season in the Flight B singles. After taking the first set from Villanova's Kristin Gobberg 7-5, the sophomore struggled to hold serve in the second. Gobberg won the set 6-1 to force a super tiebreak, but Casey came through in the end, 10-8.
Casey and Liz Larkin (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) earned the Bison's second doubles win of the day, defeating the pairing from Loyola. The victory gave Larkin two on the day as the sophomore also won her singles match, 6-0, 6-3 over Loyola's Rachel Bergeron in Flight D.
The Bucknell Invitational continues through the weekend. Play at the Bucknell Tennis Courts kicks off at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
