Bucknell Men's Golf Opens with 300 at Colgate Invitational

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Senior Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck) opened the 2009-10 season with a 1-over-par 73, leading Bucknell to a round of 300 and a tie for third place at the halfway mark of the Colgate Invitational at Seven Oaks GC. Pike is tied for third in the individual standings, while Jeff Pike (Rye, N.Y./Rye) and Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) are also in the top 10 after shooting 74 and 75, respectively.
Colgate has the 18-hole lead after posting a 295 on its home course. That is two shots better than Lafayette and five ahead of Bucknell and Laval. Fordham (304), Le Moyne (312), AIC (314), Colgate's B Team (318) and Ottawa (325) round out the field.
Ben Jessen of Colgate and Rob Robertson of Lafayette share the individual lead at 1-under par. Bartow, Devon O'Rourke of Fordham and Julieu Proulx of Laval are two shots off the pace.
Also for Bucknell on Saturday, freshman Dan Bernard (Malvern, Pa./Malvern Prep) made his collegiate debut with a 78, and Ben Mattingly (Fishers, Ind./Park Tudor) shot 81.
The tournament wraps up on Sunday. Bucknell has enjoyed recent success in this event, finishing in the top three in each of the last five years, including wins in 2004 and 2006.
