Bucknell Track & Field Earns Four ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Selections

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell track and field placed four student-athletes on the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Track/Cross Country teams, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday. Gillian Nordquist (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) was a first team honoree and Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) earned a spot on the second team for the women's squad. Kevin MacLeod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) and Jonathan Lockhart (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) pulled in the honors for the men's team.
In four years in the Orange and Blue, Nordquist has claimed several academic honors, including her first Academic All-District selection as a junior. A Spanish and English/creative writing major with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9, Nordquist was also named the 2007 Patriot League Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, is a frequent member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and Bucknell Dean's List and twice earned the President's Award for Distinguished Academic Achievement. Most recently, she was awarded Bucknell's Alvin F. Jackson, Jr. Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award at the annual Senior Awards Banquet.
When not busy with one her many academic, service or leadership honor societies and fraternities, Nordquist showed her talents on the cross country course and track. The recently graduated senior and team co-captain was a frequent scorer at meets for the Bison. She concluded her career last week at the ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Princeton, N.J., where she finished fifth in the 10,000 meters. Nordquist's time of 36:50.80 was good for ninth place in the Bucknell All-Time Top 10.
Throughout her career as a Bison, Hathaway has successfully combined rigorous academic and athletic schedules. The recently graduated senior earned a 3.69 GPA while pursuing a degree in sociology with a concentration in human services and minoring in African American studies and education. A frequent member of the Dean's List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Hathaway student taught at Lewisburg Area High School and completed several internships and volunteer opportunities while at Bucknell.
Hathaway's success continued on the track as she was a two-time Patriot League indoor track champion in the 500 meters, while her time of 1:14.25 at the 2009 Championships earned her the school record in the event. Hathaway was also the league champion in the outdoor 800 as a senior and played a part in two championship-winning relay teams.
MacLeod, who has now been named to two consecutive Academic All-District Teams, recently graduated with a 3.62 GPA in structural civil engineering. His success in the classroom has been recognized by a number of groups as he helped his squad to earning the USTFCCCA Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team in 2007. He was also recently named the Alvin F. Jackson, Jr. Memorial Scholar-Athlete at Bucknell's Senior Awards Banquet.
On the track, MacLeod was a back-to-back Patriot League champion and First Team All-Patriot Leaguer in the outdoor 400 meter hurdles, an event in which he also holds the Bucknell record (51.87). He also ranks among the top 10 at Bucknell in the indoor 60 meter hurdles (2nd, 8.29), 400 meter dash (2nd, 48.00), 300 meter dash (2nd, 35.48), 55 meter hurdles (5th, 7.72), 200 meter dash (5th, 22.43) and 60 meter dash (8th, 7.19), as well as the outdoor 110 meter hurdles (5th, 14.69) and100 meter dash (9th, 10.86).
Lockhart completed his junior season with a 3.79 GPA while majoring in computer science engineering and minoring in biomedial engineering and math. The thrower remains active on campus as a member of a number of scholastic and engineering honor societies and serving as a Library Information Technology Specialist at Bucknell as well as participating in a local internships and volunteer opportunities.
In the field, Lockhart has been an installment for the Bison at shot put, discus and hammer and weight throws. His top Patriot League finish came this spring when he placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 153 feet, four inches. With another year left in the Orange and Blue, Lockhart is already among the program's top 10 in the indoor shot put, ranking eighth (50-0).
Nordquist, MacLeod and Lockhart are each in the running for Academic All-America honors to be voted on next week.
In order to be considered for Academic All-America honors, a candidate must be at least a sophomore with a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and be a starter or significant reserve on his/her team.
With the four track and field selections this spring, Bucknell has earned 22 across all sports during the 2008-09 school year, a new record for the university. The previous high came in 2006-07 when the Bison earned 20 Academic All-District selections.
