Bucknell's Bonnie Buechel Named to Women's Lax All-Region Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior midfielder Bonnie Buechel (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) became the third student-athlete in the history of the Bucknell women's lacrosse program to earn an all-region citation when she was named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team.
Buechel had a terrific senior season for the Bison, who went 9-9 overall and 4-2 in the Patriot League this season. After producing career highs in goals (44) and points (54), she earned her fourth straight All-Patriot League nod and her third first-team honor. She became only the third four-time all-conference player in program history.
Bucknell's only previous all-region honorees were Ashley Evans in 2003 and Heidi Hammes in 1998.
In addition to leading the team in goals and points, Buechel also led the way in draw controls (47) and caused turnovers (30), and she was one off the team lead in ground balls with 45. She ranked fourth in the Patriot League in goals per game, eighth in points per game, third in game-winning goals, second in draw controls, and third in caused turnovers.
Buechel had four goals and two assists against top-seeded Colgate in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals, then she repeated that performance against Columbia in the season finale. The strong finish gave her 44 goals on the season, the fourth-most in program history and the most since Michelle Manion had 45 in 1989. Buechel had 54 points on the year, which is tied for fifth-most in a season at Bucknell.
Buechel finished her career with 129 goals, 42 assists and 171 points. She ranked No. 2 on Bucknell's all-time points list, just two behind Suzanne Raffaele, who had 173 from 2000-03. Her 129 goals rank third all-time and her 42 assists are tied for fifth-most. She also graduated ranked first in career draw controls (164), second in caused turnovers (78) and fourth in ground balls (145).
Buechel was one of 128 Division I student-athletes named to one of the four all-region teams and one of four selected from the Patriot League.
